Ethos and Values
The School Values
The children are entitled to high standards of teaching and learning across each child’s curriculum. This includes cognition and learning, communication and interaction, sensory and physical development as well as social, emotional and mental health which incorporates wellbeing. Encouraging and supporting the development of relevant independence and problem-solving runs through all of these areas.
In delivering our curriculum, we focus on providing personalised, engaging experiences that will develop each unique child’s knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes.
We aim to:
● respect all means of communication and interaction and give value to all of them through our Total Communication approach.
● provide children with a wide range of tools and approaches to support them to co-regulate and self-regulate
● foster children’s ability to build secure personal relationships.
● support children to explore and learn through play, fostering curiosity and creativity
● develop each child’s self-esteem so that they feel valued and value others. For some this will include developing a positive and caring attitude to others and the world around them.
● celebrate achievements both big and small and encourage children to take pride in their achievements.
In this way we believe that we will prepare our children exceptionally well for the next steps in their lives outside and beyond Valley School.
The Ethos of Valley School

Every child is unique and we aim to meet each child’s individual needs as fully as possible. The unique child is at the centre of all our work. This means that all staff within the school aim to be a team and work together to design and implement each child’s personalised curriculum.
The wellbeing of the staff is of high importance and we offer a wide range of support both emotionally, practically and professionally. We work in close partnership with families and carers and aim to be open and honest in our relationships and to encourage their active participation in the school community. We work very closely with our multi-disciplinary team.
Valley School has a responsibility to manage all our resources including staff and budget effectively and efficiently so we can achieve all our goals.
