Pandas
Panda Class is in Step 3, and provides a low distraction environment with direct access to a safe and engaging outdoor play area with physical equipment as well as space to walk, run or have quiet time. It caters for 8 children on the autism spectrum. Our learning environment provides many opportunities for the development of communication skills and life skills throughout our structured daily routine.
The Valley Curriculum in Step 3 continues to teach areas of learning though half termly topics and there is an increased emphasis on developing independence, self-confidence and resilience in preparation for the move to secondary school and adult life. We aim to access more facilities in the community including cycling and swimming at the community pool as well as local walks. There is an opportunity for children to participate in a residential outdoor pursuits holiday in the Lake District.
Towards the end of Year 6, children leaving Valley are supported in their move to secondary education and many of our pupils move on to Heaton School in Heaton Moor. We have close links with the potential receiving schools, and arrange visits and share information to ensure the transition process for each child is as smooth as possible.
