Bumblebees

Bumblebee Class caters for pupils within the Foundation and Key Stage 1 (Reception to Year 2). It is part of Valley’s Step 1 phase. There are currently 7 pupils in the class who have a range of complex needs and profound learning difficulties including sensory impairments and a high level of medical needs. In addition, some pupils have 1:1 medical care support at all times.

Each pupil has an Individual Education Programme (IEP) which is linked to their EHCP and devised in consultation with speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and teachers of the visually impaired. The targets set at annual review are incorporated into the IEPs which are reviewed and evaluated on a termly basis.

The teaching method includes a range of individual, small group and whole class group teaching.

We follow the Step 1 curriculum which has been adapted to best meet the needs of the youngest learners at Valley, with a high emphasis on learning through play, experiential learning and personalised teaching and learning. We have devised a two yearly cycle of topics which change each half term ensuring a rich and varied provision of exciting and motivating activities throughout the school year.

Our physical development (PD) teaching includes access to the hydrotherapy pool on site, access to the trampoline for rebound therapy, use of the indoor and outdoor space for games and dance. Children also take turns to play in the ball pool.
